ok i think i got it lol the big set of buildings to the left is the prison, and the small set to the right is what i was told is the old mental hospital. thru research i found out the mental hospital is now the visitation building for the prison itself. this one may be a little hard to investigate lmao

Sorry to tell you the part of the old hospital that is in use is leased by the Henry County Community Corrections dept and they have a alternative school and probation department there. I work on their phone system and to get into the old abandoned parts of the building they have to contact the prison across the way for a security guard to come and unlock the doors. I have been under the buliding many times tracing and pulling cable and was always more concerned about rats than ghosts but one day I was down in the basement which is located near the kitchen and was intent on working on the phone board when I thought someone had moved a folding chair that was nearby on the concrete floor. I looked at it and it was still in the same location? I told one of the probation officers about that and he said that was one of their unexplained noises that occurs frequently. I then had to go back down and finish my work! But nothing else freaky occured. The state controls the site and unless you are there in an official capacity, you can't get in. Also for anyone thinking about checking it out on their own, I wouldn't advise it as they have armed security who will arrest you.

I work at the prison here and I am one of the armed guards. We can not arrest you lol we are not the police that would be illegal lol we just restrict people from certain areas for the safety of staff and offenders. There have been a lot of stories out here of the ghosts and all and have had my own experiences as well. I am a ghost hunter too there is a set of buildings on state road 103 that are part of the old facility "off limits" but I have been in there at night and it is kinda creepy also these buildings have nothing to do With the prison so you don't have to worry about me lol just the dnr. all of the other old buildings in the woods have been torn down. The grounds do have bodies of both patients and Indians.

wicked there is so much to it and so many more legends about the land i replied to your email if you havent read it. it has a real heinous history: evil things done to patients by staff and other patients, accidents and very nearby indian mounds in which are said to be guarded by trolls. it was also called the village of the epileptics. they brought prisoners and other "epileptics" the "village" was used to pretty much exile epileptics from the rest of the populous. i would love to investigate it. im not sure about the buildings but i know where ruins are of a few of the buildings and have been trying to do as much research about the place as i can. and hopefully continuing research brings more to light

I would say more research is DEFINITELY needed here. I haven't actually checked my email in a few days so I haven't read it, but I'll do that now!

I used to work for the Dept of Correction. The New Castle Correctional Facility and the building which was the mental institution used to all be the New Castle Training Facility for DOC. I had to spend two weeks there in training several years ago. The training was in the big building but we stayed in the mental institution on the first floor. That in itself was pretty eerie. Just the females were in that building. We slept on prison cots 4 to a room. Showers (still original from the asylum) were down the hall. Very eerie walking down there at night, there was a creepy feel to the air. Upstairs was closed off and we weren't allowed to try to go up there. During the night there were noises upstairs like furniture was being moved around. I wasn't really into this at the time but now I really wish I had tried to get up there.

My ma maw use to work there she was in charge of the meals. There were a lot of people there from just slow something wrong with them to ones who were very dangerous. But the hospital I'm talking about is if you take the road past the Hospital on your way toward Mt. Summit. I would love to investigate it. If there is some kind of team me and my fiance would want to go.

I worked at New Castle State Deveolpmental Center (state hospital) from July 1977 until it closed. I loved working there. It is getting a bad rap by people who did not know what the place was truly like. Sure bad thing happened they happen every where but I know of several patients who lived long and happy lives in this facility. The medical care was way above what they would ever have recieved in the private sector. Dr.s and Nurses were on staff, on site and on call 24 hrs day 7 days a week. We had numerous people who long out lived their life expectancy when they were born. The meals were made from scratch by staff who took pride in what they prepaired if it didn't meet their specifications they threw it out and demanded better. Patients often went on community outings and trips such as state and local fairs, movies, pic-nics. We often went to state parks for fishing and pic nics. Activities in the facility were every day. For a lot of the patients the only family they had was the staff. To be born less than perfect resulted in the majority of the patients being dumped in the facility and never checked on again. The patients were always clean and well fed, entertained and taken care of. Not every perons who lived there or worked there was an ANGEL some of the patients could be quite violent and dangerous. But even the worst had good and bad days. The majority of the patients has behaviors or due to age a nursing home would not take them. Their families did not want them. I have worked the Main campus and every building in the main campus. I have worked the south east area in three of the out buildings . I have never seen a ghost. I have never seen a little girl running around in a white dress. I have never felt cold chills floating through the air. What I have heard was in the Van Nuys building the sound of a slamming metal door. The sound is almost like the sound of a jail door slamming shut. I was last in the building in November 2011 and heard the sound again. Did some one come in the back door and slam it shut? Did some one enter the unit from the main hall door? Each answer is possible and probable. I have worked in the basement of Van Nuys where the morg was supposed to be. I never saw or head any thing.

Hi. My name is Jami. I'm only 14 years old. Me and my friends have been to the mental hospital. You can get in but you half to be sneaky and make sure the people that work at the prison don't catch you. I've been there 2 times in the past month. I have done research on it. It say's that people that have been the have experienced some activity. Some people report that they see red glowing eyes in some of the rooms. Others say that the basement, where a lady that worked there as an aid, was pushed down the steps by a ghost of one of the patients who have died there. The lady broke her neck and died at the end of the steps by the elevator shaft. A lot of patients have died there, and their spirits haven't left. There was a gas chamber in the building on the very left. It's on the outside of the building. You can see it when you approach it. Inside you could see the heads that poured out the gas. Many patients have died in there. I refuse to go in there. The times i have been there i have experienced some things. The first building to the very left as you approach the area, is where most of the red eyes have been seen. That's also where the gas chamber is. I close the door to the gas chamber before we went inside the building. When we came out, it was open. Me and my friends we're walking down the hallway. As i was walking behind all my other friends. I felt as if i was being watched. I looked to my right, and in the 2nd room, i saw red eyes looking through the window. I shined my light in the room to see if any animals were there, and there was nothing there. I ran to my group of friends and told them, but they didn't believe me. We all went into separate rooms and we just stood there waiting for something. i was in the room with my friend Shania. As we were standing there, we heard a sound. It was like someone was trying to say something. Then i got goosebumps and it began to get really cold. Next thing i know me and my friend heard a growl. We ran out of the room and ran out of the building. I couldn't be there any longer. The next day we went back and went to the middle building where the lady had fallin down the steps. We walked down the steps to the spot where the lady had died. Down there was several rooms. We didn't bother to go in them. As i was talking, my friend Dylan was being himself and acted like a retard. Well, I was standing right in front of the steps and I looked right into the elevator shaft. Standing in there was the lady. I closed my eyes, and then opened them and nothing was there. I was frightened. We went back upstairs and walked around to a room where there was some wood in there. It was the room all the way to the right if your facing the back wall. As we walked into the room, Dylan felt a sharp pain on his back. We lifted up his shirt and on his right shoulder blade was four scratches. Four perfect straight scratches. I looked on the other side and on his left shoulder blade was the same scratches. Four perfect scratches. He wanted to get out of there. We walked out of the back of the building, and one of our friends happened to notice a shadow standing in the long doorway. This shadow appeared at the last building on the right facing the back of the woods. I looked, as i walked to the shadow, it disappeared. I went on the day of May 30th, and May 31st 2013. I haven't went back since then. There is no locks on the door. Just park down the road leading to the prison in front of the woods. Just remember to show no fear, for they feed off of it.

My husband's grandmother worked and retired from there many years ago. She just passed, unfortunately, at 89 years young.
