This house was a quaranitned place to put ppl during a outbreak of smallpox in the summer of 1902 the death rate was extemling high, and many ghost are said to still be there. 7014 w county line road. This is a pic of the house back in 2010. I found this article in a K-town Banner of Oct, 1969 about a fire in the old house. The text of the article follows: Knightstown firemen responded to a call Tuesday when the house southeast of Knightstown, better known as the “Pest House” caught fire. The house has been sold to E. W. Hauser of Indianapolis and workmen are in the process of remodeling the old house. Workers reported they had built a fire in one of the fireplaces on the second floor where they were working. The ceiling beams in a third floor room caught fire and caused heavy smoke but firemen were able to extinguish the blaze and save the structure with only minor damage. Spiceland Fire Department aided the local firemen at the scene. Charles Dayton Morgan, a prominent Knightstown lawyer and his wife, Alvira Woods Morgan built the 16 room house in 1867, Due to Alvira’s poor health, the family occupied the house for only 12 or 14 years, after which they returned to Knightstown to live in the brick house at the northwest corner of Adams and Brown Streets, where Charles spent the remainder of his life. The 16-room, high ceiling house on the hill stood vacant for many years, and was purchased by the town around the turn of the century (1902) for use as an isolation hospital, or “Pest House”, during the smallpox epidemic of that time. Several families occupied the house thereafter, but it was sold in the spring of 1969 to Jack Tweedy and thingy Leakey who planned to develop the surrounding acreage. They had considered the possibility of razing the old house but sold it to Mr. Hauser of Indianapolis who is restoring the home. I don't know who owns now sorry wish i did would love to ivestegate it. Attachments:

I'm not sure the names of the new owners of the Pest House in Knightstown Indiana. They do have a page for it on Facebook under Knightstown Indiana Pest House. What I can tell you about the house itself, is that I stayed many nights in the house in the early to mid 1980's when my friend Brian Hamblin's parents owned and lived in the house. I had many experiences there that were paranormal. Everything from noises, voices, apparitions, and touching. Nothing ever seemed mean or evil. The tower section had a rocking chair in it, and we would go up there to throw parachute men out the window, as we were only in 3rd grade and it was cool watching them fall 3 plus stories to the ground. I always felt like someone was in that tower whenever I was there, and a couple of times I swore I saw the rocking chair moving. The presence in the tower felt like that of an old woman or grandma, I always felt like she was watching us making sure we didn't follow the parachute men out the window. Another time we were pulling into the driveway to drop me off, and my grandma asked if Brian's Grandma was there, I said I didn't have any idea and she said look she's up in the tower. Sure enough there was an old woman up there. When I got inside I asked Brian about his grandma and he said him and his dad were the only people home, and his dad was asleep on the couch. I heard giggling of little kids, groaning of adults, and talking in other rooms and no one would be there. The only place in the house I was ever afraid of was the basement. It was very dark, and had dirt floor. I was going to go down there once with Brian, and I got about halfway down the stairs and felt a hand on my shoulder and breath on my neck. I bolted up the stairs and that was that for the basement. On seperate occasions my mom and grandma were greeted at the door by a woman dressed in early 1900 garb and informed no one was home when they were coming to pick me up, And the door would be pretty much shut in their face. This happening while there really was no one there. I believe the Hamblin's bought the house in the 70's. I'm not sure how long they owned it, as I moved away from knightstown my 5th grade year which would have been around 1986. I stayed the night there probably 10 or so times. The house was huge and old, but beautiful. They were remodeling the house and had parts of it shut off as they replaced walls etc.. They found different things hidden in walls and under floor boards that must have belonged to patients there. Really old deck of cards and chess board, a woman's hair brush are a couple of things I remember. Also they found a few body parts in the yard femur bones and a couple of arm bones as well. There is no doubt in my mind that spirits are there. I'm not sure what type of haunting it is, but there is definitely something going on there, or at least there was.

My friend and I also had an experience at the Pest House when we were in 7th grade back in 2001. Our friend lived there and she had asked us to come over to hang out. We walked over there from my other friends house which was across the road and we walked up and knocked on the door. A lady answered the door which we assumed was her new step mother. We asked if Laura was home and she said that nobody was home and she shut the door. We were kinda confused, but decided to go back home. As we walked back down the drive way, Laura and her step mother were pulling up the driveway. We asked Laura if someone else was home and she said nobody was there. The lady was dressed in a long older style dress with her hair pulled back in a low bun.
