I took a little road trip today.
I read about a "witches circle" in Daleville so I called a friend who grew up in Daleville (and still lives there). I asked if he knew about a graveyard and he told me if it was there we would find it. We did. Pretty old graves....the oldest date I found was 1833 on a stone that had been washed down a hill- almost into the creek. There is a nice mowed path to the graves and most of the yard is managed, but there are LOTS of head-stones in the weeds ouotside of what is mowed. I know some people from Madison County that help preserve and restore old cemetaries. I am going to see if they can do a little more clean-up around this one.
I didnt see or hear anything unusual, but I am guessing the return visit in the evening hours would be interesting.
I also did not see the witches circle but I found lots of ripe rasberries!

here is a link to my photobucket folder where I am going to dump some photos of a visit on 7-6-08 to "Bowers Cemetary" and then down the road to the cemetary where the witches circle is supposed to be . The stones in the 2nd cemetary have a few Bowers on them as well but the area is not marked, just some poles and wires hid out on a 90 degree turn. There are some other pics in there and I plan to sort em out... but for now feel free to check out the new ones. Nothing special... didnt have time to hang out long. Didnt find the witches circle again either. s112.photobucket.com/albums/n186/Glove_03/Wierd%20stuff/

Hi Reeb, I am Kim and new here i have 2 questions.......
1. On the 16th picture what is that in the tree on the left hand side? It looks blue and looks like it is wrapped around the tree...
Looks like a cool graveyard and i checked at findagrave and it has not been transcribed yet. The second graveyard looks interesting also. Was there a story behind the statue of the man and the little girl?
Ok for my next question....
2. Do me a favor and dont delete the pics of the sign for Bowers cem or the listing of the names. If u dont mind i could add it to findagrave or if u would like to do that it would be great.
When i see cemeteries like that i wonder how much longer they will be readable or even if ppl will remember them. Thanks KIM

Kim, 1- I think its just light from the sky comming through the trees 2-Wont delete the photos and feel free to use them on findagrave.... *I also wonder about the future of these places and our ability to preserve and restore the markers and the land. So here is an idea of the location You are looking east of Daleville, south of Muncie. Following Old SR 67 south out of Muncie you find Middletown Pike / Honeycreek Road- this is the road both cemetaries are located on- the "witches circle" place is the unmarked cemetary and you have to find the 90 degree bend marked with some poles and wires. Its north of the marked cemetary. Stroll down the nicely kept path that someone takes care of and you will find the gravestones on a little hill. There are more markers out in the weeds that have not been kept clear and there is at least one down the hill toward the creek. The place has been beat up pretty bad but at least somebody tries to help keep it mowed and clear. I found it interesting that both places have Bowers in them. I think its odd that the MARKED location with the sign has Sarah and David listed to be burried there and part of both stones mark thier place....but.... they are both split in half. You will find the top half of Sarahs stone in the other cemetary leaning against another Bowers marker. ...the names and locations for the Bowers Cemetary- and thier markers / location going to the unmarked cemetary you will see a broken top half of a marker for Sarah Its an interesting place. These graves are of some of the 1st "white" people to settle this area. I think the north half of Indiana was still mostly native americans up to about 1840.

Good find, Reeb! Other haunted Indiana sites have you looking all over the place for it. Most say it is at 950N and 500E. Which if this intersection existed would be here: 40°14'26.97"N 85°34'32.75"W. As you can see, there is no 950N and nothing resembling a cemetery here. According to USGS your place is called Sharp Cemetery.

The first visit was using those roads as a reference. My buddy knew where Bowers Cemetery was but we just happened to notice Sharp Cemetery (learning how to spell) -only because of the path. If someone didnt mow back there we would have drove right by.
Interesting still... Two cemetery locations so close to each other, one marked, one not. Bowers family buried in both locations. Sarah Bowers marker is broken and the top half of the marker is in the 'wrong' location.

I appreciate u allowing me to use your information. I will add it to findagrave. Also i went to findagrave and did a search just to see if it was already documented and there are actually 4 listed but none of them are the one u found. Bowers Cemetery Fort Wayne Allen County Indiana USA - 11 Bowers Cemetery Fort Wayne Allen County Indiana USA - 2 Bowers Cemetery Bowers Montgomery County Indiana USA 1 148 Bowers Graveyard See: Old Union Cemetery Tippecanoe County Indiana
And i also wanted to make sure that i was understaning the picture of the family tree. The ppl listed were buried there?? Am i correct?? Thanks KIM

Daleville Witches Circle - It is said that people have seen outlines of a white women figure here. There is also a myth that the red splatter on the road is where someone was murdered but people say it's just a paint splatter. Also it has been said that an old man that used to live close to the "Witches Circle” still haunts the place today, and it’s said that witches still go there to do witch craft. Anytime people practice black magic and there are tales of haunting not associated with an actual individual or event, entities could be at work. Entities are thought to be from either a very disturbed person, or not from a human at all, called up by either séances or some other form of paranormal ceremony.

Hi, I'm a native of Muncie and have many friends and family who've been to the witches cirlce, legend you may not have known: It is said that if you walk in a straight line pass the gravestones, you will count 13 headstones...but then when you walk back, you only count 12. Just a legend, my sister said it happened to her, and when she went to witches cirlce she heard a little girl whispering but she was with her boyfriend and three other males. WARNING- If you go to the witches circle, beware of the owner. He has dogs and lets them loose if he believes people are there because they are trespassing. The same night my sister was chased out by these dogs and almost got bitten!

Wrong the oldest grave is from Feb. 11, 1810. Sorry but its true. Sarah Clevenger. She was an ancestor of mine and I have take pictures of all the graves. there could be older ones in the over growth of the woods, as if you go towards the fields into the trees there are many graves you can't see very well. I thought about going out there and clearing some of the brush away so I can read them. But every time I am out that way and think to stop, I don't have the tools I need to get rid of the brush safely.

I'm sure everyone would like to see pics! Unfortunately this isn't my area so I don't really know much about this one.
