Scottsburg Bridge Water (Owens) Cemetery -What have you got to lose? There are many Civil War veterans buried inside of the Bridge Water Cemetery, but only White ones. Blacks were taken behind the cemetery walls to be buried. People visiting the cemetery have seen glowing red eyes from the back partition where they have also witnessed an arch shaped figure. They have reported black shapes moving around their cars and sometimes their cars will not start and that there have been unexplainable handprints on them. It seems as if the cemetery is always much colder than the temperature is outside and some people have complained of cold chills here. There have been people that have said they were chased out of the cemetery by a white horse. People being taken to this cemetery for interment make the drive down Double or Nothing Road. Did anybody ever come out on top? Poor Mary-What about us? The building that houses the Scott County Historical Society was once a home for the indigent and before that an asylum for the insane. Throughout its many phases people here have told of strange things happening. Thinking people were at the doors or coming in the doors when there was nobody. Hearing heavy footsteps. There have been many instances where people thought that someone was calling their name and hearing constant chatter. When they asked around they were told of a Mary that had lived out her days here when it was the poor farm. Mary was an annoyance because she would constantly talk all hours of the night and from her room she would yell out the names of other residents. This building is open for tours for a fee. It is at 1050 South Main Street.

I grew up approximately a half mile from this place and my father worked at the rock quarry right in the area. I used to take walks with my brother and cousins and would walk past it all the time and even explored it.

Just found out that the room at the top of the hill was built for use as a bible study. My grandfather and uncle built it, and my father helped to build parts of it. It wasn't a place of evil until people started hanging out there and starting rumours of devil worshipping and having a witch live there. The original owner was a very religious man. My dad worked for the owner almost every weekend when he was young. The house was burned in the late seventies or early eighties to cover up a robbery. You also used to be able to go in there and find alcohol bottles and stuff where teenagers hung out there for the thrill of it. Some of the stories and legends have gotten changed around a little through the years. But my parents remember it as a very beautiful and peaceful place before others, out of towners came in and went there for nefarious reasons. That is why the townfolk got so superstitious and cautious.

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. I happened to see the information about the castle on a DVD I checked from the library in Plainfield IN. What caught my attention was not all the talk about ghosts; this doesn't much interest me. What caught my attention was the alledged history of the castle structure. Frist, there doesn't seem to be much history: who built it, who lived there, and who owns it today. It is alledged that the history of the structure is pre-Columbus but I cannot find any supporting materials or anything at the Universities in the area; I would have thought there would have been extensive write ups since this would fall well outside "conventional thinking" regarding "who was here first. It took quite sometime before Lief Erickson finally made it into our history books.
Can anyone here direct me to any sources other than ghosts and golbins? What work/exploration has been done on this structure?
Thanks

GhostDude:
Can you shed any light on the origins of this "Castle" in Utica. I send an email yesterday but it doesn't look like there is much activity here. Thanks Katz

I Was with a group of friends headed to Mistletoe falls (were from Louisville) we got stopped because my dumb ass friend was going 45 in a thirty and ran two stop signs. Utica cops are cool. he let us off with a warning.
He just so happened to ask us where we where headed, and we told him. He told us that the only people that had permission to be up there is the paranormal investigators, and the owner lives out of state.
I have some serious business questions about getting permission to go up there. If ANYONE knows how to get permission PLEASE CONTACT ME!!

A reply to an email I received asking for info on witches castle: I didn't personally know the owners of witches castle. but my parents did. I actually have a picture of the original home that was there before it burned. It was always known as Mistletoe falls and the residents of Utica didn't know people were calling it Witches' Castle until the incident with Shanda Sharer. My grandfather and Uncle helped to build a lot of the home and my father helped to build the small room on the hill when he was a kid. My mother and father both knew the children that lived there and would visit with them. There were never any witches that lived there and Utica wasn't founded by witches. There was never a small child that died there as far as we know. I lived about a quarter of a mile away from it for the first 24 years of my life. My father worked at the rock quarry right by mistletoe falls. the quarry has since been turned into a gated community known as Quarry Bluff I think. That happened after I moved . We would walk past it all the time. You could walk through it and not get into trouble. I think it was burned in the late seventies to early eighties. I will have to ask my parents to be sure of the time frame but by the time I was old enough to take walks, it was already burned and I was born in 1972. It was burned to cover up a robbery. most people that lived in the town were related or had known each others families for several generations. My immediate family moved after the flood of 1997. The majority of residents moved after that. I am relating some of this information so you can make an informed decision on whether or not my information is credible. After it burned, teenagers started hanging out there. Drinking and vandalism started then. People from out of town would come in to hang out with there friends and would inevitably end up there partying. That is when rumors of devil worship and hauntings started. After that, the owners of the property were understandably upset and the local authorities in the town started watching the area and running people off. They were suspicious of anyone asking about the place because usually they had nefarious reasons for wanting to find the place. Alot has changed in the last 14 years since I have left the town so I don't know anything about the authorities or anything there now. Attachments:

Hi all! I was reading this forum and decided to join the site so I could ask some of my own questions about this place. I live in Greenwood and we've pretty much exhausted all of nearby places. We found Witches' Castle on YouTube and we really want to go and do an investigation. Can anyone tell me what sort of problems you encountered? And if you captured anything on video, EVP, etc?

No I haven't. I didn't think that we'd be able to get in to do an investigation. But it's great that you're in Greenwood too! Finally, I found another person that's close by and is serious about this!

There are a few places in Atterbury that you can get into, but since the majority of it is military it's mostly off limits. I do plan on doing an investigation there as soon as my ankle heals and I can get one together.
